Scotch Sake?

In more interesting news from around the world of sake, it appears that Scotland will be added to the growing list of countries around the world making sake. It might be the only one making sake in a former school.

Currently crowd sourcing capital to outfit the old Dreghorn Primary School that they bought, Arran Brewery, seeks, according to one article, to export most of its sake to Japan. The benefit to the local area will be in terms of jobs, not necessarily in terms of drinking. But I find it hard to believe they won't catch on, if the sake is any good.

The article also reveals that the group have been brewing sake in small batches already, and it importing "rice boiling machines" from Japan.

Yikes! Boiled rice? Probably an honest mistake.

It seems that the group are counting on the history of Japan's fondness for scotch opening the door for Scottish sake to flourish in Japan in the same way. How will the Scottish folks like it?
