Sake at the Beach in FL

Mind blown @ Sake Bar Yoramu, Kyoto

Saw this article today, believe it or not, the wave of premium sake has lapped the shores of Palm Beach Florida.

The Hatsume Fair, organized by the Morikami Museum of Delray Beach Florida, is to host to a "Sake 101 Demo," with the help of Richard Priest, a "brewmaster" working with Kikusui Company.

The fair also has a Japanese menu including some unnamed sake you can buy by the cup, or the flight.

An interesting quote from Priest in the article:

“Sakes produced in the U.S. are very reasonably priced, which has given a lot of people a chance to try sake for the first time,” Priest says. “We producers in Japan owe them a debt because it is thanks to them that we can now bring premium-grade sakes from Japan and have a market that is ready to receive them.”

Never heard this take before, but certainly there is a ring of truth if you consider that American sake is cheaper and therefore might encourage more people to try it versus the number of people who would spring for an imported Junmai Ginjo just to try it out of curiosity.

So there you have it: American sake: the gateway sake.
